NSK Europe Ltd., a Japanese owned global bearing manufacturer, has entered into formal collective consultation with the workforce at its Newark, Nottinghamshire, UK manufacturing site, producing bearings, Linear Guide Sliders and Self-Lube bearings for the industrial sectors. Proposals have been presented to the union, employee representatives, and the workforce, relating to a full closure of the Newark Plant manufacturing. This proposal is part of a global manufacturing footprint review due to continued reductions in demand locally and globally, which would see Newark production cease and products secured from other NSK sources.

Under this proposal all circa 220 roles associated with the manufacturing on site are placed ‘at risk’ of redundancy. The UK Sales and Group Services functions located at the Newark site are intended to remain in the Newark area, regardless of the outcome of the consultation.

Should this proposal go ahead, UK and European customers would be served from NSK’s European distribution centre in the Netherlands and produced at other global manufacturing sites. Assurances are in place to ensure current levels of supply and service levels would be maintained.

Support measures have been put in place for our workforce in the form of internal support from management and the human resource department, as well as the company’s Employee Assistance Programme provided by a third party.
